Amid Devonia's Alps - Out Now

The new Urthona CD is here, and it's humungous. An hour of garage-metal, rural-psychedelia spread over three massive, long tracks. Taking over where I Refute It Thus' Sun and Moon So Heavy left off, it's super-intense Slab Rock all the way and comes in a tri-fold eco-sleeve with inserts, field recordings in Devon and Wiltshire, photos by Julian Cope. Hell yeah, it's totally up-for-it free-noise ampage, tho' careful aural scrutiny may reward the listener with the discovery of distant melodious undertows. Amid Devonia's Alps - Further 004

Urthona's exploration of the points of contact between psychedelic metal, free noise and walking meditations continues. Urthona's second CD, Amid Devonia's Alps, will be released at the end of January 2009. Its three totally humungous guitar tracks are likely to cause structural damage at volume, while listening at lower levels will aid meditative inner journeys. The packaging follows I Refute It Thus with an eco-print fold out stylee cover with inserts, quotations and fulsome sleevenotes. Julian Cope took the awesome cover photographs of Becky Falls waterfall on Dartmoor. The CD is being released by our buddies at Further, part of the Strange Attractor Journal empire. Two Experimental Shorts

Urthona buddy Ric Kemp has put shortened version of two of his Super-8 lo-fi masterpieces, 'Avebury' and 'Ridgeway' on YouTube. They both feature soundtracks of pre-Urthona material, pretty different to the stuff on I Refute It Thus (but essentially long drones, so maybe not all that different), made with harmonium and Mellotron and hardly any guitar.
